Take A Break – Enjoy Your Surroundings

When was the last time you took time out from your busy schedules to just stop and smell the roses around you?
Well, I did. I took a day off and had an Island Tour. It was a lot of fun, just relaxing, driving around, getting away from the hustle and bustle of work.

When you are self-employed and work at home, there is always something to do or finish. Especially if you are a stay at home mum, you might not have a lot of time for yourself. If you can’t take a whole day, take what one mum suggests – 15 minutes of self care can make a whole lot of difference.

We all need to take a break from work sometimes. Take some time for ourselves, to relax and enjoy life.

Relax At Home

No need to bust your budget or break the bank by taking an expensive trip out of town. You can get away without going away by vacationing at home.

We tend to take the places where we live for granted. We don’t see the beauty that surrounds us until someone comes and reminds us how beautiful or unique it is.
Visitors to our hometowns are fascinated with what they see for the first time. Why not be a tourist for at least one day? Enjoy your hometown and all that it has to offer.

I live on a beautiful Island called Barbados in the Caribbean.
It is just 166 square miles or as we Bajans like to say, it is 21 miles long and a smile wide. It is actually only 14 miles wide but it is a beautiful place.

When I was invited to go driving around the Island I jumped at the chance. There were lots of places that I had not visited in a while and some new places that I wanted to see.

We started out on the West Coast, that is where I live and went to the North Point, then the East Coast, then the South Coast and ended back home on the West Coast.

We did a lot of driving around, wished I had The J-Pillow Travel Pillow with me. It is the perfect travel buddy. See my post.

We took many photos and videos on the way. Had lots of laughs and fun. It was a great day out with family and friends. We even tried to catch a rainbow.

We all need to take a break after working hard, so we can relax, refresh and rejuvenate our bodies and minds. There is beauty all around us so enjoy it while you can.

Here are some questions to ask yourself.

  • What is unique about your hometown?
  • Is there something special you take for granted?
  • Is there something you always wanted to do?
  • Or somewhere you wanted to visit but could never find the time?

You will not FIND TIME… unless you MAKE TIME!!!

So MAKE TIME… to enjoy your surroundings.

Get Away Without Going Away Ideas

  • Have a Staycation (Vacation spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions)
  • Go on a hike/picnic or some other outdoor activity.
  • Visit with friends/family.
  • Take a stroll thru your neighborhood.
  • Revisit your childhood favorite spots.

Enjoy the simple things in life. Do something nice and relaxing for yourself.
You won’t regret it.

Drop a comment and let me know how you relax at home or what you plan to do.

  1. yes, yes, yes! What a great idea to look at your own place as a tourist destination and go exploring it 🙂 We are traveling right now for a prolonged period of time, so we do enjoy our surroundings every day. But once we’re back in Berlin, I can’t wait to go through the city and try to see it anew 🙂 For many years I have been taking pictures of Berlin underground. So my project will be to challenge myself to go to further stations to take those pictures and discover new surroundings.

  2. Truth! When we moved to Hawaii I decided to make a conscious effort to get up early, do my work (also work from home) and be done early to go enjoy my island life. Otherwise – why do we work so hard?

  3. I think of my town as horrid and fake. I think there is no beauty here. But realizing that that amazing gorgeous place is your home and you have become slightly immune to it leads me to believe maybe I need fresh eyes. Such a good inspiration and a wonderful exercise in mindfulness. Thank you for the eye opening post

  4. You are blessed to live near such a beautiful location. Personally I don’t find my city nice when it comes to nature or camping spots. But we have some great cultural architecture and eating areas.

  5. Each place has its own unique beauty. Architectural buildings should be great for photo shoots. Take some fun photos add history and fun facts and you have a great blog post in the making 😂 Eating places are always good for relaxation.
